IMPORTANT INFORMATION/ACTION ITEM regarding School Funding in IL

Many of you know about the budget crisis in Springfield impacting education in our state. Illinois Senate passed SB231 on May 10th of this year, and it will be moving to the House for a vote soon.  Indian Prairie sent an email to parents recently with more details including how this could mean a $10M reduction in state funding to IPSD 204. May Watts is represented by 2 different State Representatives:  Grant Wehrli and Stephanie Kifowit.  They can be contacted by using the following links: 41districtdirector@gmail.com and stephanie.kifowit@att.net

More information in this article:  Indian Prairie School District 204 is circling the wagons to protect its schools against the possible loss of nearly $10M in state funding from the latest plan gaining steam in Springfield.  http://trib.in/1WNWfg6

HELP WANTED  – LEADERSHIP POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Interested in joining PTA leadership next school year?  We have 2 Standing Chair positions currently open on the Executive Committee: Teacher Support and Staff Relations.  Think of Standing Chairs as managers of a team – they do not chair a specific committee (although they can if they want!).  Instead, this role communicates with chairs in their area to ensure that all the programs are running smoothly and help, if needed.  This is a GREAT way to get involved with PTA and learn about all we do.  No experience?  We’ll train you!  Contact Matt Jones if interested or with questions (tofinland@yahoo.com).  Here are some details:

  • Teacher Support Standing Chair – oversees committee chairs for LMC, PE, Popcorn, Prize Cart, Room Parents and others.
  • Staff Relations Standing Chair – oversees committee chairs for Teacher Meals and Staff Appreciation Week.

REFLECTIONS CHAIR NEEDED!

Reflections is the National PTA arts program that asks children to get creative!  Students are invited to create works of art in any of six different arts categories, reflecting upon a different theme each year.  The six art categories are dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.  As the chair, you are responsible for collecting all of the May Watts entries, coordinating the first round of judging at May Watts, delivering the winning projects to the district competition, and organizing the end of the year celebration.  If you are interested or have any questions please visit: http://www.illinoispta.org/reflections.html or contact Sandy Beris at mrsberis@hotmail.com.

Thank you for supporting the May Watts PTA!
