Science Fair Judges Needed

The May Watts Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, March 15th and we need your help! Judges are needed to interact with students and motivate kids toward further science exploration. Additionally, judges in the competing rooms will complete a rubric for each student they meet.

If you would like to meet and encourage these amazing kids a background in the sciences or education is helpful, but not a requirement.

Judges can be May Watts teachers, parents, neighbors, or your professional colleagues. Please feel free to forward this invitation to those individuals who would make great judges.

If you are able to volunteer to judge in the competing rooms (3rd-5th graders) please sign up here:

If you are able to volunteer to judge in the non-competing rooms (K-5th grade) please sign up here:

May Watts Spelling Bee 2017 – Deadline Extended to this Friday

May Watts is enrolled in the Scripps National Spelling Bee 2017

This year, kids from Grades 3rd to 5th can enroll for the contest. Interested kids will take a 25 word Grade Level Spelling Bee (written) test after school on Wednesday, April 12th at 6:00 pm in the Art & Multipurpose rooms.

Based on the results, the top scoring students from each grade will be invited to participate in the Watts Spelling Bee, to be held on Friday, April 21st at 6:00 pm in the Gym.

Most of the preparatory work for the Bee will need to be done by students in their own time. There are suggested word lists for each grade level. Students should begin by studying the appropriate list(s) for their grade level, and move up from there. These lists are not comprehensive, but they are a good start. Lists will be shared with the registered parents via email and are available here.

There is no registration charge for the grade level competition.

Students advancing to Watts Spelling Bee would need to pay a $5 registration fee. Parents and families are invited to attend the Friday, April 21st contest.

Registration ends March 17th. If interested, please register at http://bit.ly/2h8TLe9

Art Awareness Volunteers Needed

Art Awareness is a great opportunity for you to give a short presentation to your kid’s class. All of the Power Point presentations and corresponding lesson plans have been prepared for you and can be found on the Watts PTA website http://wattspta.org/?page_id=398.

The presentations discuss an artist and their techniques and are connected to the ELA curriculum. The lessons also include ideas for a creative project you can have the students create.

Please email the Art Awareness chairperson at: Claire_e_dee@yahoo.com if you wish to participate.

Thank you!

PTA Grant Request Process

Parents, the PTA sponsors an annual process where teachers and parents can make requests for grant money from the PTA for things that YOU think would improve the learning environment for our kids. If you have an idea for the school that you’d like the PTA to sponsor, please use the attached form to give us some more information! We love to hear from parents and teachers about what we can do to make our school an even better place. Grants are due by April 3. Thank you!
