Art Awareness Volunteers Needed

Art Awareness is a great opportunity for you to give a short presentation to your kid’s class. All of the Power Point presentations and corresponding lesson plans have been prepared for you and can be found on the Watts PTA website

The presentations discuss an artist and their techniques and are connected to the ELA curriculum. The lessons also include ideas for a creative project you can have the students create. Please email the Art Awareness chairperson at: if you wish to participate.

Thank you!

Science Fair Judges Needed

The May Watts Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, March 15th and we need your help! Judges are needed to interact with students and motivate kids toward further science exploration. Additionally, judges in the competing rooms will complete a rubric for each student they meet.

If you would like to meet and encourage these amazing kids a background in the sciences or education is helpful, but not a requirement.

Judges can be May Watts teachers, parents, neighbors, or your professional colleagues. Please feel free to forward this invitation to those individuals who would make great judges.

If you are able to volunteer to judge in the competing rooms (3rd-5th graders) please sign up here:

A training session will begin at 6:00pm to explain the grading rubric and to offer discussion questions you can use. The Fair will commence at 6:30pm, with the award ceremony to begin at 8pm. If you have any questions about the process, please contact Sandy Beris

If you are able to volunteer to judge in the non-competing rooms (K-5th grade) please sign up here:

A training session will begin at 6:00pm to explain the format and offer discussion questions you can use. The Fair will commence at 6:30pm, with the award ceremony to begin at 8pm. If you have any questions about the process, please contact Naveena Ganesan or Monika Thacker

Free Money for May Watts!

UPDATE: The last day for us to submit Box Tops and get a check for this school year is March 1 so please turn them in now!

We “LOVE” Box Tops! Each of those little labels you see on items around your house is worth 10 cents for your child’s school and they add up! Look for them on Ziplock products, Hefty products, Kleenex, and more. See the website for a full list of participating brands.

Box Tops can be turned in to your child’s teacher or in the mailbox at the front entrance. Please make sure the bag or envelope you send the Box Tops in is labeled with your child’s name and class so they receive credit for upcoming collection contests! Now it’s even easier with the new Box Tops For Education app! Simply scan your grocery receipt for up

to TEN BONUS Box Tops per item!! Simply download the app and watch the Box Tops add up! The Box Tops for Education website also has great coupons, lists of participating brands, and additional ways to earn FREE MONEY for YOUR school!

PTA Grant Request Process

Parents, the PTA sponsors an annual process where teachers and parents can make requests for grant money from the PTA for things that YOU think would improve the learning environment for our kids. If you have an idea for the school that you’d like the PTA to sponsor, please use the attached form to give us some more information! We love to hear from parents and teachers about what we can do to make our school an even better place. Thank you!

Sponsors for Trivia Night

Do you or someone in your family own their own business? If so, would you consider becoming a sponsor for our annual Trivia Night? In order to offset our costs for the event, we are looking to partner with local businesses like yours.

Sponsorship levels start at $250. We plan to advertise our sponsors at the event and through school communications.

We need your commitment by February 24th in order to process our advertising and website in time for the event on March 11th. Please email Brook Barker at for further details.

Science Fair Mentor Night

A second mentor night is scheduled for the kids on Feb 23rd, 2017 from 6:30pm -8pm in the LMC. Students can talk to our mentors about what they have done, find out if it makes sense, and determine if they need to improve their test to get the best out of their work. Students should bring in whatever data/materials they have completed to show the mentors.
